Saw Mill Fifth Graders Learn What’s In A Name

“What does my name mean?” That’s what fifth graders in Chrissy Migliano’s class recently explored at Saw Mill Road Elementary School.
She explained to her class that a name is the first marker of anyone’s identify and students researched why their first names were chosen. As part of the process, each child had to interview a family member. Every student then completed an essay highlighting the meaning of his or her name along with a personal reflection.
Ms. Migliano said students completed the project after reading the book, “The Name Jar,” by Yangsook Choi. She also noted that it fostered the home-school connection.
