Read Aloud Sparks Discussions on Kindness at Martin Avenue

Third graders at Martin Avenue Elementary School explored the ingredients for kindness during a recent activity that coincided with Start With Hello Week. 

After a read aloud of “Enemy Pie,” a children’s picture book written by Derek Munson and illustrated by Tara Calahan King, students worked with partners to come up with their ingredients for kindness. Teacher Katie Lanzisera noted that the collaborative task took place on “Thoughtful Thursday” of Start With Hello Week. Students worked together to identify ways to show kindness in school and help friendships grow. 

After coming up with their ingredients, each group shared their ideas and provided their classmates with new tools to foster kindness.
