A warm welcome for North Bellmore’s growing leaders

Park Avenue Elementary School Interim Principal Kristina Spithogiannis greeted students as they arrived for the first day of school in North Bellmore on Sept. 1.

The front lawns of North Bellmore’s five elementary schools were filled with hugs and high-fives as students reunited after a two-month summer vacation on Sept. 1. It was the first day of school for 2,070 students from kindergarten to sixth grade. 

Parents snapped lots of photos at “Welcome Back” signs, then said their goodbyes before students walked through the doors to begin a new year of learning. The enthusiasm in the classrooms was just as high, as teachers warmly greeted their students. Children found their desks and cubbies, unpacked supplies and learned classroom routines.  

This year, the district is introducing the FranklinCovey “Leader in Me” framework, which was the focus of Superintendent Conference Days during the last week of August. North Bellmore’s young leaders are ready for a year of growth, from the kindergartners learning to read and write, to sixth graders taking their last steps before middle school.
