Red, White and Blue field day fun at Martin Avenue

The upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States was the theme for this year’s field day at Martin Avenue Elementary School in the North Bellmore School District. Paying tribute to the nation’s milestone was fitting at an event that is a year-end tradition across America’s schools.
The morning began with sixth grader Rachel Padilla singing the “Star-Spangled Banner.” Students and staff wore their “Martin Avenue Field Day – USA 250” shirts that were provided by the PTA.
Out on the field, students rotated through different stations and enjoyed activities that are field day staples like the sack race and tug-of-war. All of the events had patriotic names. Basketball was the All-American Hoop, a water relay race was the Lewis & Clark Expedition, a cup-stacking competition was the Skyscraper Build and a water balloon throw was the Tea Party Toss.
As is a Martin Avenue tradition, sixth graders stepped up as leaders and helped run the events. The PTA also provided a pizza lunch and watermelon slices.
