Security and Surveillance

Security Vestibules

Superintendent Testa, who is a long-standing member of the Nassau County Council of School Superintendents Safety Committee, is continually working with her administrative team, Board of Education, Nassau County Police Department, and Homeland Security to assess, adjust and implement procedures that support the safety and security of the North Bellmore community. To this end, Mrs. Testa applied for a community revitalization grant from Nassau County Legislator, Thomas McKevitt to fund the construction and installation of security vestibules at each of the five school buildings in North Bellmore. In addition, the North Bellmore community approved the expenditure of capital reserve monies to further support the completion of the projects.

September 2022: The District is pleased to announce the completion of the security vestibule project which supports a multi-layered approach to decreasing school building access and vulnerability.

Featured below are pictures of the security vestibules along with some pertinent safety and security information:

School Security Procedures and Security Vestibule and Visitor Management System

  • All doors that lead to the outside are locked when school is in session. Parents and other visitors to school buildings must have an appointment. Visitors who are coming to school unexpectedly should call ahead to the secretarial staff to state the reason for the visit. Before the entrance to our buildings, every visitor will be asked specific questions related to our building access protocol. The security guard will admit visitors into the security vestibule. While in the security vestibule, visitors will be asked to present a valid, state-issued picture ID, which will be scanned into the Raptor Visitor Management system. The Raptor system provides the North Bellmore School District with the ability to keep an up-to-the-minute log of visitors, contractors, and volunteers to whom we have given access to our schools, thereby creating a safer environment for our students and staff.
  • Parents/visitors may only enter through the main entrance and must obtain a visitor’s pass from the security guard who is located inside the main entrance of every school building. Upon entering the school security vestibule, please do not hold the door open for other visitors or open a door to allow someone else to enter.
  • School personnel are required to wear photo ID badges for identification purposes. Visitors are required to wear a temporary badge that indicates an individual is an authorized visitor. Any unauthorized person on school property will be reported to the school principal or designee. Unauthorized persons will be asked to leave. At the end of a visit, visitors must return to the security desk to check out and exit the building through the main entrance.
