  • Park Avenue Principal Earns Administrator Award

    Eileen Speidel

Eileen Speidel, principal of Park Avenue Elementary School, was named an Administrator of the Year by the Council of Administrators and Supervisors.

Ms. Speidel was among 15 highly skilled public school administrators from Nassau and Suffolk counties who were recognized at an awards dinner on March 14 at the Holiday Inn in Plainview. She was nominated by fellow principals Jeff Rosof and Leyna Malone.

This is her 12th year as principal of Park Avenue. Prior to that, she worked in New York City schools for 16 years as a sixth-grade teacher, a health and physical education teacher and an assistant principal. She holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, a master’s degree in elementary education and her building leadership administrative certification, all from Queens College.

As a principal, Ms. Speidel said she strives to create a nurturing environment where “our scholars invest in their best as students and as people of good character.” During her tenure, the Shared Decision Making Team adopted Parker the Panda as the school mascot to reflect the school’s core values of scholarship and citizenship.

Ms. Speidel said she shares her success with all of her colleagues at Park Avenue, her fellow administrators in the district and those who have been part of her lifelong journey. She noted that North Bellmore is an educational community filled with “joyful collaborators.”

“Living my life successfully, immersed in such a noble and rewarding profession, is exceptionally gratifying and fills my heart to overflowing,” she said. “I am truly grateful to be surrounded by people who bring out the very best in me, and who encourage me to expand as a person and who motivate me to be better today than I was yesterday.”
