Dear Park Avenue Families:
I hope you had a wonderful summer filled with new adventures, and special times with family and friends. It’s hard to believe that August is over and the new school year is about to begin. Over the past couple of weeks, the teachers have been working hard to get their classrooms ready for the students, and they are all feeling very excited for the new school year!
It’s a pleasure to welcome back our returning students to the 2011-2012 school year. I’d like to extend a special welcome to the newest members of the Park Avenue community: our Kindergarteners; our new students in grades 1-6; and their parents. The faculty, staff and I are eager to welcome your family to the Park Avenue family. We are very proud of our school and we hope you love it as much as we do.
A key component to student development and learning is parental involvement. I encourage you to take an active role in your child’s education and learning. During the elementary years, your support and help will be important factors in how your child learns and develops both as a student and as a person. You, as parents, are your child’s first teacher and have a huge influence on their development. I encourage you to establish positive communication with your child’s teachers and with me. Of course, please feel free to contact the school, at any time, should you have any questions or concerns.
One excellent way to participate in “school life” is to become a member of the PTA. Park Avenue has a very active and supportive PTA and parents are strongly encouraged to partner in their child’s education. By becoming a member, and providing your support throughout the year, you will help to provide a variety of cultural arts programs and special events for the students, which complement, and enhance, the school curriculum. Additionally, I encourage you to share your time and talents with the PTA for the benefit of all the Park Avenue children.
An ongoing commitment to reaching and challenging all learners in an empathetic culture of kindness and respect; high expectations for student achievement; a highly-qualified and dedicated staff; supportive school and district administration; and parental involvement continue to make Park Avenue Elementary School a wonderful place to learn!
I am looking forward to greeting each of you, and the students, on the first day of school!
