From the Desk
of Mrs. Hirschfield, Principal:
Newbridge Road Elementary School
Welcome to Newbridge Road Elementary School. Did you
know that Newbridge celebrates its 80th birthday
in the spring of 2004? Newbridge was one of the first buildings
built in North Bellmore. In the early 1900's a one room
school house stood on the site presently occupied by the
fire department. When the school became overcrowded a new
two room building was built on its present site. As more
students enrolled a new building was necessary and in 1924
a new brick building was erected and later enlarged to
accommodate the growing population.
Presently we house
430 students in full day kindergarten through grade six program.
We believe that children can reach their potential with a
positive learning environment filled with educational excellence
and opportunities for hands on experimentation. We engage
students in literacy activities in all grades using literature
that is leveled and chosen especially for them. A new district
wide initiative, Step Up to Writing, promotes student writing
that supports multiple writing styles, language development,
grammar, punctuation and the writing process. Our math adventures
include manipulatives that challenge students to use their
critical thinking skills. Our classrooms have computers that
encourage students to extend their knowledge and competency
in technology. All students receive art, music, library and
physical education. Our winter and spring musical concerts
provide an opportunity for our talented students to share
their skills with the community.
At Newbridge we strive to
engage students in good citizenship and character development.
We have great school spirit and each month we hold school
wide assemblies that focus on different character traits.
Our school spirit soars as we sing the Newbridge Road
school song and wear our student created blue and gold
tee shirts. Our Newbridge family of students, teachers,
parents and administrators take pride in our ability to
work collaboratively to create the best educational environment
for our children. |
